Mark Shaffer - President
Mark has been serving Canton Township as a Trustee since 2017. Mark was also elected by membership and serves as President of the Stark County Township Association representing all 17 townships in our county for the 2018/19 term.
Mark and his wife, Hather, are proud Canton South graduates and are parents of two sons and one daughter and reside in Mark’s childhood home.
Mark brings to the township 24 years of proven leadership and management experience having been promoted through a wide variety of operations management roles at Charter Communications, most recently in the capacity of North Canton senior site leader overseeing residential data and voice support operations.
Mark obtained his B.A., Business Management, from Walsh University, graduating with Summa Cum Laude distinction and as a member of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business Management and Administration. Mark also graduated from the Canton Chamber, Leadership Stark County 19th Signature Program class as well as Leadership Stark County’s Government Academy.
Mark is very active and involved in the community, including serving a multiple year term as a member of the Leadership Stark County Board of Trustees, member of Canton South Rotary, past member of Canton Rotary, served on the Stark State College area employer Technology Advisory Board, past member of ystark! Young Professionals having served on the Professional Development Committee as well as the Northeast Ohio CEO Lunch and Learn Executive Committee, active volunteer inside of Canton Local Schools, as well as helping to coordinate Charter give back efforts within the local community.
Christopher Nichols- Vice President
Mr. Nichols is a Canton South graduate and holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Malone University. He works as the Director of Management and Budget for Stark County. Mr. Nichols was appointed by former Ohio Governor Robert Taft to the Clean Ohio Council to represent Ohio’s 1,308 townships. While on the Clean Ohio Council, he was involved in the awarding of over $120 million in grants to help clean up and redevelop Ohio’s Brownfields.
Mr. Nichols has spent many years serving as the public address announcer for the Canton South Football and Basketball teams and the Malone University Football team. He is a former member of the Canton South Rotary and a graduate of the 19th class of Leadership Stark County.
Chris enjoys serving as your Canton Township Trustee and the opportunities it provides to meet new people and help them through the maze of government. He looks forward to working with you to continue making Canton Township a Proud Family Community.
William Mittas - Member
Mr. Mittas was elected in November 2011. Mr. Mittas and his wife Vicki are graduates of Canton South High School and have four children -- Sara, Samantha, Paige, and Noah.
Mr. Mittas has a Business Finance degree from Ohio State University. He earned his Law Degree and Master of Taxation from the University of Akron. He is a member of the Stark County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives (NOSSCR).
Mr. Mittas has been a practicing attorney for over 20 years and is a partner at the Marsh & Mittas Law Office.

Ronald Smith - Fiscal Officer
Ron is a life resident of Canton Township along with his wife, Susan Eberhart Smith. They have 3 children, Andrea, P.J. and Marty as well as three grandchildren, Nicholas, Tino, and Sadie. In their spare time they enjoy spending time with friends and family.
He graduated from Canton South High School and received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Akron. He remains active in his community and has served as President of the Canton South Rotary, President of Wildcat Summer Baseball and as a Board member of the Canton South YMCA. Ron will continue to work hard to keep Canton Township financially sound.
