
Fire Chief Chris Smith
Chief Smith has been a member of Canton Township Fire Department since 2001 and was promoted to Shift Commander in January of 2013, overseeing 2nd shift. He was appointed full-time Fire Chief in July of 2014.

Assistant Chief Rick Morabito has been a member of Canton Township Fire Department since 2003, starting as a paid-per-call member at our Meyers Lake station. He was promoted to part-time captain in 2011. In January of 2013, Captain Morabito was sworn in as a full-time Firefighter/Captain Paramedic. January of 2017 brought in his promotion to Shift Commander overseeing our 3rd shift crews. In July of 2017, Morabito was sworn in as Assistant Fire Chief, our 1st ever full-time assistant chief. As part of his duties AC Morabito runs the training division for the fire department.

Captain Michael Yurkonis serves as EMS Coordinator for Canton Township Fire Department and is responsible for all EMS training and operations for the department. Mike has been a member of the department since 2013 and was hired as a fulltime Fire/Medic in 2015. In 2018, Mike was promoted to Shift Commander and oversees our 3rd shift crew along with his EMS duties. Captain Yurkonis replaced our long-term Deputy Chief, Jack Liberator, upon his retirement in 2019.

Firefighter Beachy has recently joined Canton Township Fire Department as our new full-time Fire Prevention Officer, replacing the recently retired Captain Karla Nevel. Mike is a State Certified Fire Inspector, EMT and Firefighter II. Mike has been working in the fire service since 2005 serving with the Sugarcreek Fire Department. Mike is excited to be starting his new role with Canton Township. Over the last couple of months he has been visiting Towsnhip businesses introducing himself and familiarizing himself with the business.

Susan Schnegg joined the Canton Township Fire Department team in 2008 as our full-time Administrative Assistant. Susan oversees the general operations of the office as well as coordinating the use of the Community Center.

Scott Johnson became a member of Canton Township Fire Department in 1984 as a volunteer at our Meyers Lake station. He was appointed as a full-time Firefighter Paramedic in 1991 and progressed through the ranks. Scott was promoted to Shift Commander in 2007, overseeing 2nd shift. In 2013 he retired from full-time firefighting and became the part-time Administrative Aide for the department. Scott's role is assisting in all areas of the department and oversees billing, state reporting, state credentialing and public relations.
